automated documentation on qvd-file-dependency, document dependencies

Hi Guys!

When we create a QV analysis-application ("A.qvw") we usually use alrerady existing QVDs from previous projects to get the data for this new analysis-application. Let's assume, X.QVD and Y.QVD (created by X.QVW and Y.QVW) are used as data sources for "A.qvw"

But during maintainance, let's say a year after this analysis-application gets depricated and finally deleted.

However, we'd need a mostly automated method which helps us to be able to find out which underlying QVDs and QVD-generating QVWs can be deletetd, du to the obsolete analysis-app.

So what we need basically is the data of document-dependencies. We need to know which documents our phased out document "A.qvw" is dependent of. In our case that wuiold be X.QVD and Y.QVW. In the next step we need to find out if those QVDs, are required somewhere else. And so on...

Do you have any idea where and how to get at least the basic data of document-dependency in the way I described. As soon as we have this basic data we can furthermore store it into a table, create tree views for visualisation, build algorithms to find obsolete documents and so on. That would vastly improve our maintainance.

Thank you very much for your input.

Hi Rob,

where is the meta model group gone? I cannot follow your link. (I get an "unauthorized" error page)

Kind regards

Hi Fridtjof,

the same happened to me before. You have to join a group first, and your join_request needs to be moderated and approved by the mods. Should be pretty quick, though.

Hi DataNibbler,

Thanks for your hint. I cannot find anything about how to join this group though.

There is neither an explanation nor any menu item on http://community.qlik.com/places

Any help would be fine.

Thanks in advance
