load qlikview server more than once a day at specific times, is this possible?

Hello,

i want to reload the data from our ERP into qlikview server a few times per day.

but it seems that i can only load at 1 specific time per day, or for example every hour, but that might cause too much impact on the database while working.

is it possible to schedule for example 1 time at 12' clock when everybody is taking lunch, once at 17h30 when everybody goes home and once at 21h when

all our shops are closed.

and if so, how would i have to do it?

you should be able to set up any scheduling you want using EDX and the Windows task scheduler.

And if you mean in QlikView Enterprise Management Console, I would think you could just set up multiple daily triggers, one for each time of day you want to load.  I thought I had a real example, but it turns out we're using EDX for the one I was thinking of.  I was able to add multiple daily triggers just fine, though.  I just haven't tested to make sure it actually works.

you can add multiple triggers to a task at the Managment console.

Should be absolutely no problem.

Using the QMSEDX.exe linked in the referenced thread, setting up an EDX trigger batch is a one liner, fairly easy.

Only disadvantage is that you don't see the next scheduled run from within QMC task overview (it's just saying 'On EDX' or something like that).

Big advantage is that you can trigger not only time bound, but given any other event that may call the batch.

I believe the capabilities to create an appropriate trigger from within QMC itself is depending on your setting, are you using publisher or just a server?

In your case, could you get away with a reload every 6hrs (6am, Noon, 6pm, Midnight)?

If not, my preferred method is to use QMC to run a blank qvw running on a standard frequency (say hourly or half-hourly) which tests for current hour or time value in an if statement and if it fails the test, run some code to force the job to FAIL otherwise do nothing or run some code that will succeed.  THEN, set your actual job to only run on success (on event from another task) of that document.

The only thing the QV admin needs to remember is that when the job fails, it is expected - I have set my control documents to group under a category of ExpectedFailures so it doesn't confuse admins.
