Give access to external users

Hello everyone,

Currently, we have SBE and we would like to give access to Access Point to some external users (which means they don't have AD account).

I know we have to make the webserver accessible from the internet. But then, how do we manage the CALs and the authentification ?

We are ready to upgrade to Enterprise Edition and buy other solutions if needed.

Thank you for your help

You can store the users in a local windows directory on the QlikView server and then you can have management console look at both AD and the local directory.

If you like QlikView to manage the users and use a custom directory then you would have to upgrade to enterprise.  One thing to note is that if you use custom users on access point you will not be able to use your AD users.

Local directory allows you to use SBE and AD

Hi jpapador,

I am trying to achieve the same. Could you please tell me more about the windows local directory solution? I have to implement this but I am a novice. It would be really great if you could please tell me in a bit more detail how i can do this.

Thanks in advance! Waiting to hear from you soon!

First your user you are logged in as will need to be an admin on the QlikView server.

Then while logged into the your QlikView server open up the mmc (start --> search "mmc").  Once opened hit file and then add a snap in.  Add the snap in "Local Users and Groups".   Hit finish with the default settings and then ok.  You should see two folders "users" and "groups".  You would create your users in the users folder (right click on any white space and click new user).  A limitation of this solution is your end users will not be able to set their passwords you will have to do it for them.  Once you have created your users that you want open the QV management console.

Click on the system tab and then expand the Directory service connectors option.  Expand DSC@yourservername and click on Local Directory.  If it is not there already click the green plus icon to add the directory.  The default name should work which is local://YourServerName.  Hit apply, you should now be able to find these user in management console and assign them CALs.  They should also be able to authenticate in access point.
