Showing data for latest year if selected year is not available?

I have a number of charts on a sheet showing analysis for a selected year.  However, when a user selects '2015-16' some of the charts say 'no data to display' because data isn't available for that year for those measures yet.  For those charts can I force it to show the previous years data if the selected year is not available?
