Logic for a graph

Hi all,

I want to create a graph like this

I do have Hire Date & Separation Date for an employee. If the employee is still active the separation date is null. I want to know what the logic should be to create a graph like this.

I was thinking about Interval match only but was not able to identify how to put it for dates. This example will help.
