We have a table that contains a 3 character code and 10 character description
I do have a field that has the concatenation of 3 character code, followed by description which I have
used to create a list box
I would like to use the 3 character code as part of the selection criteria for my straight table but not sure best way to do this
I know in vb there is a display and value field but not sure about qlik view
Thanks!

So you want to have a column in the straight table with the 3 character code in?
is that what you mean?
Do you have the original 3 character code as a field in your data model? If so, just use that field name in the straight table.

Exactly as @rwunderlich says, use the single field in the table. if you dont have it then you could use a calculated dimension instead left(combined_field,3)
Thanks for all the responses!
I'm new to qlikview and have to say the response time is very impressive!
I'm thinking perhaps I'm not explaining my question very well (Combined with my newness to qlikview) 🙂
I attached a screen shot that I think illustrates what I'm looking for
If I select a category or 2 in the list box...I only want records in the straight table that match the category(ies)
and as you can see in the screen shot I'm not getting that result
conceptually I understand the comments...guess I'm confused as to implementation
Perhaps if someone could post a qvw?
Really appreciate your patience!
It looks like its an issue with your data model. Can you post a sample? Maybe scramble any sensitive data first (you can do that in QlikView - Doc properties>scramble tab and choose the fields you wish to scramble)

Got it!
Thanks for the sample ... That cleared it up!
Glad it helped 🙂
