Is AGGR() like SQL GroupBy?

Is the function AGGR() a comparison to SQL Group By statements when using aggregation functions?

I have hardly used this function, but from what I have read of it, it seems that it is equivalent of GROUP BY in SQL, but I have not seen or read any person making that comparison, which leads me to believe it isn't....

They do seem similar... does anyone have an example of how they would be different? Or, is it the case that they are equivalent...
