Why do we need a mapping load/table anyways ?

Hi

i am new to Qlik.

I have mainly developed in MSBI and SAP(BO).

Can't see to understand the logic of mapping.

What i read it seems it created relation between two tables like a link or associative table.

But why do we have to explicitly set up the relation.

If we are loading from a RDBMS isn't the relation should already be defined.

Since i am loading a QVD from a data warehouse the data quality is not also a issue.

Then why should i need a mapping table.

I can try to explain, but others have already done that better. See here and here.

But in the end, it's your decision to use mapping tables or not.

Hi.

Besides what Gysbert linked, map tables can also be used to batch comment, drop and rename fields.

MyMap:

MAPPING LOAD X, Y FROM xyz.qvd;

COMMENT FIELDS USING MyMap;

DROP FIELDS USING MyMap;

RENAME FIELDS USING MyMap;

Kind regards
